Neo-cons are the ones assaulting marriage!!!

This is a tribe for people who are horrified by the assault on marriage being perpetrated by the pseudo-religious right-wing. They are turning it into a divisive political issue to distract everyone from horrendous budget deficits and botched foreign policy. Gay marriage is assaulting no-one, unlike cutbacks in government programs that help poor families (married couples with children by the way).

Let us discuss interesting ways of spicing up the debate; what kind of marriages and unions would still be allowed after a constitutional ban on gay marriage? Civil unions between heterosexuals, hets marrying gays, lesbians marrying gay men, each partner bringing their lover along to the ceremony, civil unions between different species or items of furniture presided over by circus performers, marriages with pre-nuptual contracts signed that confer none of the benefits of marriage to each partner and that nullify the marriage if children result. What can we do to draw press attention to the silliness of a constitutional amendment to forbid one type of marriage and not a million other interesting interpretations? Maybe this is just my personal fantasy, but I'm all up for my own assault. An assault on the complacent assumption that marriage is somehow defined by religious dogma... Did anyone issue a test to make sure all those married couples truly believe in a living God and actually intend to stay married and have children? Who says it's got to have anything to do with religious beliefs about unions blessed by God or Allah or whoever?
